Case description:

Prisoner serving a sentence for robbery. On November 3rd, 2013 he swallowed a scalpel and some wires to protest that guards had refused to take him to see the grandfather who raised him at the hospital ( who died soon therafter, on November 19th). The guards did not transfer him to the hospital for treatment until November 16th, when he was already near death. The prison's reeducation specialist had stated he would not take him for medical treatment even if he removed his own intestines. 
Yonni's mother, Blanca Martínez, staged a protested in front of the prison four days after her son´s death, on November 24th, making prison authorities responsible for his death.

Preso cumpliendo una condena por robo. El 3 de noviembre de 2013 se tragó un bisturí y algunos cables para protestar porque los guardias se habían negado a llevarlo al hospital a ver al abuelo que lo crió (que murió poco después, el 19 de noviembre). Los guardias no lo trasladaron al hospital para recibir tratamiento hasta el 16 de noviembre, cuando ya estaba cerca de la muerte. El especialista en reeducación de la prisión había declarado que no lo llevaría a un tratamiento médico, incluso si se extraía sus propios intestinos. La madre de Yonni, Blanca Martínez, realizó una protesta frente a la prisión cuatro días después de la muerte de su hijo, el 24 de noviembre, haciendo responsables a las autoridades de la prisión por su muerte.
