Bohemia, Año 51, No. 2, 11 de enero de 1959, p. 184, reports him as José Ángel Fernández Rodríguez, alias El mítico, a forty-eight-year-old anti-Batista revolutionary living at 49 Calixto García Street, Batabanó, province of La Habana, shot and killed by Batista's police at the Vento Highway in the province of La Habana, on February 24, 1955, his body found lying on the highway.  Bohemia, Año 51, No. 3, 18-25 de enero de 1959, p. 158, reports him as José Rodríguez, a twenty-year-old anti-Batista revolutionary living in the city of Santiago de Cuba, province of Oriente (now Santiago de Cuba), killed in a shootout against Batista's police in the city of Santiago de Cuba, province of Oriente (now Santiago de Cuba), on April 10, 1958, during the failed general labor strike. Dávila Rodríguez, Lucharemos hasta el final: cronología 1956, p. 46, reporta que se llamaba José Angel Fernández Rodríguez y que murió el 24 de febrero de 1956, en el Kilómetro 4 de la Avenida de Rancho Boyeros, La Habana, donde su cadáver apareció acribillado a balazos.
