Case description:

14-year-old Cuban boy who died of a heart attack in the area known as "Loma de la Muerte" (Hill of Death), attempting to cross the Darien jungle, between Colombia and Panama. His mother Lisandra Bravo Alarcón had drowned in a shipwreck a few days earlier in an attempt to reach Panama with her husband, Bryan, a 5 year old daughter and several other relatives.  They continued on their way to the United States to request asylum and Bryan's body was buried in the jungle by local guides.  The family started their journey in Chile.

Niño cubano de 14 años que falleció de un infarto en la zona conocida como "Loma de la Muerte", en la selva de Darién (entre Colombia y Panamá) según un informe de la Secretaría de Gobierno de Acandí, Colombia. Su madre, Lisandra Bravo Alarcón, se había ahogado en un naufragio el mes anterior en un intento de llegar a Panamá con su esposo, Bryan, su hija de 5 años y otros familiares, para continuar hacia Estados Unidos y pedir asilo. El padre y la hermana de Bryan junto con sus otros familiares sobrevivieron y continuaron hacia Panamá. Ante el grado de descomposición del cuerpo y la no presencia de funcionarios, los guías de la zona decidieron sepultar a Bryan a 50 metros de la desembocadura de la quebrada la Resbalosa al Río Muerto. La familia había emprendido su ruta hacia los EE.UU. en Chile.
