Case description:

Founding member of the Movimiento Cubano Pacifista Solidaridad y Paz (Solidarity and Peace Cuban Pacifist Movement), who was arrested several times for peacefully protesting against the regime and for installing an antenna and a speaker to retransmit Radio Martí programs to his neighbors. On September 6, 1991, he was arrested with three others participating in a demonstration calling for the release of political prisoners outside the State Security headquarters at Villa Marista. Martínez Castillo was sentenced to 11 months in prison. After his release from jail, he continued his peaceful protests against the government. On March 5, 2008, he was brutally beaten at his home by members of Cuba's State Security. He died a few hours later. It was later determined that, during the beating, he suffered a broken rib that perforated his lung.

Miembro fundador del Movimiento Cubano Pacifista Solidaridad y Paz, quien fue detenido en varias ocasiones por protestar pacíficamente contra el régimen y por instalar una antena y un parlante para retransmitir los programas de Radio Martí a sus vecinos. El 6 de septiembre de 1991, él y otros tres miembros del partido fueron detenidos mientras participaban en una manifestación para pedir la liberación de los presos políticos frente a la sede de la Seguridad del Estado en Villa Marista. Martínez Castillo fue condenado a 11 meses de prisión. Después de salir de la cárcel, continuó con sus protestas pacíficas contra el gobierno. El 5 de marzo de 2008 fue brutalmente golpeado en su domicilio por miembros de la Seguridad del Estado de Cuba y murió unas horas después. Posteriormente se determinó que, durante la golpiza, sufrió la fractura de una costilla que le perforó el pulmón.
