Case description:

Young man arrested at home at 5AM for the alleged crime of "trafficking horse meat" and “attacking authorities.” He died the following day while in police custody due to an alleged suicide by hanging. His brother reported that the body had bruises and no marks on the neck. and that Joelvis was not one to commit suicide. Family members complained to the media outlet Martí Noticias about the lack of transparency in the investigation supposedly being carried out by Cuban authorities, which were reporting that none of the guards on duty were available and the log book containing the data of the shifts had disappeared.

Joven cochero que fue detenido por el presunto delito de “tráfico de carne de caballo” y “atentado contra las autoridades,” y falleció mientras se encontraba bajo custodia policial supuestamente por un presunto suicidio. El hermano dijo que el cadaver tenía hematomas y no tenía marcas de soga en el cuello. Familiares dijeron a Martí Noticias que lamentan la falta de transparencia en la investigación que supuestamente adelantan las autoridades cubanas. “Dijeron que mi hermano se ahorcó, pero ahora dicen que no aparece ninguno de los guardias que estaban en ese turno. Tienen un libro que contiene todo eso de quién viene de turno, quién está de turno, dicen que ese libro no aparece”, dijo a Martí Noticias Roydeinis Viscay, hermano del fallecido.
