Case description:

A 44 year old mother of two children who died at a forced labor camp from lack of medical attention. She had been sentenced to 5 years of prison after participating on October 10, 2022 in a peaceful protest of the prolonged blackouts affecting the population in Güines, Mayabeque province. She had been suffering from health problems for months without receiving adequate medical attention. Conditions in Cuba's penitentiary system are terrible, the prisoners face mistreatment, extreme malnutrition, and disease without medical attention, have no access to justice or the minimum conditions required to survive.

Presa política de 44 años, madre de dos hijos, que falleció en un campo de trabajo forzado por falta de atención médica. Fue condenada a 5 años de prisión tras participar en una protesta pacífica el 10 de octubre de 2022 en Güines, provincia de Mayabeque, contra los prolongados apagones que afectaban a la población. Llevaba meses padeciendo problemas de salud sin recibir la atención médica adecuada. Los presos cubanos sufren maltratos, desnutrición extrema y enfermedades sin atención médica, aparte de que no tienen acceso a la justicia.
