Case description:

Was serving a 25-year sentence for a common crime and worked in the prison kitchen. After being accused by another inmate of selling food, the head of internal order removed him from his job; he took psychotropic drugs in protest. As punishment, he was subjected to the common torture known as "mechanical restraint," also known as "the rack" or "Turkish bed," consisting of keeping the person tied up and immobilized. For three days, he was kept isolated in an unsanitary room in the medical station, immobilized, and without access to food or medical supervision. Only when another inmate noticed he was unresponsive and alerted authorities did they discover he had already died. His family was informed that he died of an overdose. His body was handed over to his relatives on September 7th, a wake was held in the El Bayamo neighborhood of Guantánamo, and he was buried on September 8th.

Cumplía una sanción de 25 años por un delito común y trabajaba en la cocina del penal. Tas ser acusado por otro recluso de vender comida, el jefe de orden interior lo sacó de su puesto y, en protesta, consumió psicofármacos. Como castigo, fue sometido a una práctica de tortura común conocida como 'fijación mecánica', que en otras prisiones se conoce como 'el potro' o 'cama turca', y  consiste en mantener a la persona amarrada e inmovilizada. Durante tres días lo mantuvieron aislado en un cuarto insalubre del puesto médico, inmovilizado y sin acceso a alimentos ni supervisión médica. Solo cuando otro recluso notó que no respondía y alertó a las autoridades, comprobaron que ya había fallecido. Aunque a la familia le informaron que murió por una sobredosis. El cuerpo fue entregado a sus familiares el mismo día 7, fue velado en el barrio El Bayamo, en Guantánamo, y sepultado el 8 de septiembre.
