Case description:

Young political prisoner serving a 12-year sentence for “sedition” for his participation in massive protests of July 11, 2021. He was held at the Panama prison for HIV patients in Güines. After suffering a stroke due to high blood pressure, he was unable to move his mouth, hands, or feet. At his family's insistence, he was transferred to the Julio Trigo López Hospital in Havana, where he was given a terminal diagnosis and released home on parole. He died shortly afterward.

El manifestante del 11 de julio de 2021, Luis Miguel Oña Jiménez, de solo 28 años, falleció tras sufrir una isquemia cerebral. De acuerdo con la denuncia realizada por su madre Ivon, Oña Jiménez había recibido una licencia extrapenal luego de que su condición médica se deteriorara gravemente dentro de la prisión. Tras su excarcelación, Oña Jiménez fue trasladado al Hospital Julio Trigo, donde, según el testimonio familiar, fue enviado de regreso a su casa para que falleciera allí, sin recibir la atención especializada que su estado requería.
