Case description:

Cuba's Ministry of the Interior reported him killed during an alleged armed infiltration during a confrontation with a Cuban border guard vessel around a nautical mile northeast of El Pino canal, Falcones cay, Villa Clara province. He was part of a group of ten reportedly attempting to enter Cuba on a boat, registered in Florida as FL7726SH, to carry out a resistance operation against the Cuban dictatorship. Ortega was had a trucking business in Tampa and was an American citizen; he had arrived from Cuba to the U.S. over 20 years earlier. He left behind his wife, his mother, two sisters — one of whom lives in Cuba — and a daughter who is pregnant. He was a member of the Republican Party of Cuba, active in Cuba and in exile.

El Ministerio del Interior de Cuba lo reportó muerto en una presunta infiltración armada tras un enfrentamiento con una embarcación de guardafronteras de Cuba a una milla náutica al noreste del canal El Pino, en Cayo Falcones, provincia de Villa Clara. Formaba parte de un grupo de diez que, según se informa, intentaba ingresar a Cuba en una embarcación con matrícula de la Florida (FL7726SH) en una operación de la resistencia contra la dictadura cubana. Ortega era dueño de una empresa de transporte, residente en Texas y ciudadano estadounidense, con más de 20 años de residencia en Estados Unidos. Dejó a su esposa, su madre, dos hermanas —una de las cuales reside en Cuba— y una hija embarazada.  Ortega Casanova era miembro del Partido Republicano de Cuba y participaba en actividades del exilio.
