Case description:

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of Miami reported on April 16, 2026, that the Cuban migrant, who had entered the United States in October 2024 and was in deportation proceedings, died in his cell in what appeared to be a suicide attempt, although the cause remains under investigation.  He entered into ICE custody after being found in county jail in February 2026, following an incident with police in Hialeah in November 2025. He had been tasered and arrested for resisting an officer; however, the charges against him were reduced and ultimately dismissed. He was also involved in a prior family-related case that was later closed. Lawyers and activists link his death, and others like it, to poor conditions, overcrowding, and problems with medical care in detention centers.

El Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE) de Miami informó el 16 de abril de 2026 que un migrante cubano —quien había ingresado a los Estados Unidos en octubre de 2024 y se encontraba bajo procedimientos de deportación— falleció en su celda en lo que pareció ser un intento de suicidio, aunque la causa de la muerte sigue bajo investigación. El migrante pasó a custodia del ICE tras ser hallado en una cárcel del condado en febrero de 2026, a raíz de un incidente con la policía en Hialeah ocurrido en noviembre de 2025. Había sido inmovilizado con una pistola Taser y arrestado por resistirse a la autoridad; no obstante, los cargos en su contra fueron reducidos y, finalmente, desestimados. También estuvo involucrado en un caso familiar previo que posteriormente fue cerrado.
