Case description:

At the Veguita 1 Correctional Center—located in the municipality of Yara, Granma province—a 69-year-old common prisoner named Andrés González Arias, originally from Jiguaní, Granma, was brutally beaten. This inmate suffered from psychiatric conditions and "lost his mind" while in prison. He was serving an 18-year sentence of deprivation of liberty and had already completed 16 years of it. He was subjected to cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment, including beatings, extreme starvation, and illnesses left untreated due to a lack of medical attention and medication. He endured beatings with sticks at the hands of both prison guards and other common prisoners. As a result of these beatings, he became bedridden in a small room within the facility's so-called "mini-hospital," and he passed away a few days later.
This information was provided by José Daniel Ferrer, who learned of the incident after a Ministry of the Interior (Minint) official sent the details to an intermediary, who in turn forwarded them to José Daniel. Images of the deceased subsequently appeared in a social media post by a woman named Beatriz Quedada; she claimed that the deceased was her brother, and in the comments section, people posted tributes such as "RIP Pascual" or "Pascualito."

En el Centro Correccional Veguita 1, municipio Yara, provincia Granm apalearon brutalmente a un preso común de 69 años de edad nombrado Andrés González Arias, de Jiguaní en Granma. Este recluso tenía padecimientos psiquiátricos y "enloqueció" en prisión. Tenía una sanción de 18 años de privación de libertad y había cumplido 16. Era sometido a tratos crueles, inhumanos y degradantes, a golpes, hambre extrema, enfermedades sin atención médica ni medicinas. Sufría golpizas con palos por parte de carceleros y otros presos comunes. Cayó en cama producto de los golpes en una salita del llamado hospitalito de Veguita 1 y unos días después murió.
La información la dio José Daniel Ferrer, quien la supo porque un oficial del Minint le envió la información a una persona, que a su vez se la hizo llegar a José Daniel. Las imágenes de esa persona aparecieron luego en una publicación de una persona llamada Beatriz Quedada, quien decía que era su hermano el que había fallecido y en los comentarios las personas ponían EPD Pascual o Pascualito.
