Bombu Moreira fue trasladado desde la Prisión Provincial de Guantánamo a la unidad de cuidados intensivos del hospital en estado crítico. El tribunal le concedió una licencia extrapenal un día antes de su fallecimiento, "en un procedimiento realizado durante las horas de la madrugada y con la presencia de un fiscal", según testimonios recibidos por el grupo de asesoría legal Cubalex.
