Case description:

Cuban defector from Cuba's intelligence services who in December 1961 sought asylum in Ecuador's embassy in Havana and gained safe passage to Brazil. He went to live in Virginia and worked with the CIA (code name AMNIP-1) attempting to recruit Cuban intelligence officers overseas.  Roche, who was perfectly healthy, collapsed almost immediately after attending a lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Virginia with "one or more mysterious Cubans" accompanied by an FBI agent. He has officially succumbed 'an unknown poison," likely cyanide. A police investigation was not opened but the toxicology report from the autopsy indicated that 90% of his hemoglobin had been contaminated, causing extreme inflammation and leading to respiratory failure. He had received threatening letters indicating: "We know what you are doing, ...so one way or another, we will take care of you."

Desertor cubano de los servicios de inteligencia que pidió asilo en la embajada de Ecuador en diciembre de 1961 y logró salir para Brasil. Fue a vivir a Virginia y a trabajar con la CIA (con el nombre en clave AMNIP-1) intentando reclutar oficiales de inteligencia de Cuba en el exterior.   Roche, que estaba perfectamente sano, colapsó casi inmediatamente después de asistir a un almuerzo en un restaurante mexicano en Virginia con "uno o más cubanos misteriosos" acompañados por un agente del FBI. Se reportó oficialmente que fue envenenado con 'un veneno desconocido," probablemente por cianuro. No se abrió una investigación policial, pero el informe toxicológico de la autopsia indicó que tenía el 90% de su hemoglobina contaminada, lo que le causó una inflamación extrema que condujo a insuficiencia respiratorio.
