Case description:

Young man shot to death by police. A press release by Cuba's Interior Ministry stated that two policemen had shot Hernández after he was caught stealing parts from a bus depot and had thrown large rocks at police and tried to escape. It denigrated his character, claiming that Hansel had served a prison term and was on probation for threatening persons, “lascivious abuse,” and robbery with violence.  The US Department of State reported: "Outside observers identified a number of reasons to doubt the accuracy of the government’s account. Photographs of the body circulated on social media by Hernandez Galiano’s family members showed a single bullet wound, entering via Hansel’s back and emerging from his chest, indicating he was running from the officers, not actively confronting them. The photographs also showed bruising to his face and sutures closing a cut to the head (possibly post mortem). Members of his family said his body was reportedly quickly cremated, after pressure from the government."  
Cuban authorities prevented a protest of Hernández's killing that had been planned for Havana and other parts of Cuba on June 30, 2020. Ahead of the protest, Cuban authorities harassed and detained at least 54 people, accusings some of the crime of “spreading an epidemic,” and at least 84 people were forced to stay in their houses or harassed. Targeted restrictions interrupted cellphone data and phone services.

Asesinado a tiros por 2 miembros de la Policía Nacional Revolucionaria de Cuba en Guanabacoa, provincia de La Habana. Según un comunicado de prensa del Ministerio del Interior de Cuba, los policías trataron de arrestar a Hernández Galiano cuando estaba robando piezas y accesorios de un paradero de autobuses y recibió un disparo cuando intentó escapar. El Departamento de Estado de EE. UU. Informó que las fotografías del cuerpo de Hernández mostraban una sola herida de bala, entrando por la espalda y saliendo de su pecho, lo que indica que estaba huyendo de los oficiales y mostraban hematomas en la cara y suturas que cerraban un corte en la cabeza (posiblemente post mortem). La familia reportó que su cuerpo fue incinerado rápidamente, bajo presión del gobierno.
Las autoridades reprimieron una protesta que se planificaba para La Habana y otras partes de Cuba el 30 de junio de 2020 para protestar por el asesinato de Hernández y no pudo llevarse a cabo. Acosaron y detuvieron al menos a 54 personas, acusando a algunos del delito de "propagar una epidemia," y obligaron a al menos 84 personas a permanecer en sus casas. También se interrumpió selectivamente el servicio de datos de teléfonos celulares y el telefónico.
