Case description:

Cuban doctor hired by the Cuban government to the Mais Médicos program of Brazil who had been working since 2013 in the city of Bom Jesus da Lapa.  She died less than 48 hours after being hospitalized for a seeming cold. In fact, she did not know she had contracted the H1N1 or influenza type A virus. The Ministry of Health of Brazil confirmed she had suffered fatal cardiac arrest. The body was transferred to Cuba for burial. Clara was a native of Ciego de Ávila and had completed another mission in Venezuela, from 2003 to 2010.

Falleció en menos de 48 horas después de ser internada en un hospital de Bahía por lo que comenzó como un resfriado, no dio tiempo a determinar que había contraido el virus de la gripe H1N1 o gripe A. La Secretaría de Salud de Brasil (Sesab) confirmó que Clara Elisa González Méndez, de 45 años y que trabajaba desde 2013 en la ciudad de Bom Jesus da Lapa (a 777 kilómetros de Salvador, la capital estatal) sufrió un paro cardiorrespiratorio fatal el martes 19.
El cadáver fue trasladado a Cuba para ser sepultado. González Méndez era natural de Ciego de Ávila y había cumplido otra misión en Venezuela, de 2003 a 2010.
