Case description:

Pérez Torres had served 15 years of a 44-year sentence for attempting against a policeman during a street fight. He and several prisoners had an argument with their ward chief and were sent to individual isolation cells at the maximum security prison of Boniatico. Threatened with a new and long prison sentence for this, he took his life by hanging after alleging he would not be able to withstand it. His family and friends blame prison authorities. A political prisoner held in the same facility, Eduardo Díaz Castellano, reported that seven inmates had committed suicide there in 2009.

Pérez Torres cumplió 15 años de una sentencia de 44 años por intentar contra un policía durante una pelea callejera. Él y varios prisioneros tuvieron una discusión con el jefe de su sala y fueron enviados a celdas individuales de aislamiento en la prisión de máxima seguridad de Boniatico. Amenazado con una nueva y larga sentencia de prisión por esto, se quitó la vida ahorcádose, después de alegar que no sería capaz de soportarlo. Sus familiares y amigos culpan a las autoridades de la prisión. Un preso político recluido en la misma instalación, Eduardo Díaz Castellano, informó que siete presos se suicidaron allí en 2009.
