Case description:

Botet committed suicide rather than face death at the hands of an incensed mob. He was a well-known lawyer and regime opponent. The Bay of Pigs invasion had begun at dawn that day and all suspected regime dissenters were being arrested.  At home with his wife and two young children, a large mob attacked their house with rocks and bullets, demanding he come out to drag him through the streets. Refusing to succumb to the mob, he shot himself. His brother and nephew, both doctors, identified the body at the medical examiner's office and verified that he had one shot to the heart appearing self-inflicted and no other injuries or bruises. Botet left a wife, a son, age 10, and a daughter, age 14.

Botet se suicidó para evadir la muerte por una turba enardecida. Era un conocido abogado y opositor al régimen. Se había iniciado la invasión de Bahía de Cochinos esa madrugada y todo del que se sospechara disentir del régimen era arrestado. Botet estaba en su hogar con su esposa y dos pequeños hijos cuando una turba atacó la casa con piedras y balas, exigiendo que saliera para arrastrarlo por las calles. Se suicidó en lugar de entregarse a la turba.
Su hermano y sobrino, ambos médicos, identificaron el cuerpo en la oficina del médico forense y verificaron que tenía un solo disparo en el corazón que parecía autoinfligido y no tenía otras heridas ni contusiones. Botet dejó una esposa, un hijo de 10 años y una hija de 14 años.
