Case description:

In 1959, after the revolutionary government had risen to power, Dr. Muiño started working as a dentist at the Air Force base San Antonio de los Baños. Communist activities and Soviet influence were soon apparent and, as a devout Catholic, he did not accept ideological training, leading to constant surveillance by State Security. In June 1961, he was arrested. Months later, he was subjected to a summary trial and immediately executed on charges of counter-revolutionary activities. He left a wife, two daughters and an adopted son.

En 1959, luego de la llegada al poder del gobierno revolucionario, el Dr. Muiño comenzó a trabajar como dentista en la base de la Fuerza Aérea en San Antonio de los Baños. Las actividades comunistas y la influencia soviética pronto se hicieron evidentes y, como católico devoto, no aceptó la formación ideológica, lo que llevó a la vigilancia constante por parte de la Seguridad del Estado. En junio de 1961 fue arrestado. Meses después, fue sometido a un juicio sumario y ejecutado inmediatamente por cargos de actividades contrarrevolucionarias. Dejó esposa, dos hijas y un hijo adoptivo.

Many of the above sources report the year of execution as 1961. Cuban American National Foundation, Quilt of Fidel Castro's Genocide, 1994 Nuestra Cuba, 1999, p. 15 and WAQI-Radio Mambí, p. 14, have him executed by firing squad at La Cabaña Fortress prison in Havana on February 2, 1961. Nuestra Cuba, 1998, p. 79, also has him executed by firing squad in Sagua la Grande, province of Las Villas in October 1961.  
Circuito Sur, July 2002, p. 58; and Beruvides, 1993, p. 149 report a José L. Muiño or a José L. Muina executed by firing squad at La Cabaña Fortress Prison on August 31, 1962.
Circuito Sur, July 2002, p. 59; and Beruvides, 1993, p.  150 report a José Antonio Murino, executed June 10, 1961 at Sagua La Grande. Clarinada, octubre 2009, reports a José Antonio Murino,  executed by firing squad in the same city and on the same date as six others, in Sagua la Grande, province of Las Villas (now Villa Clara), on October 6, 1961.
Beruvides, 1993, p. 149; and Cuban American National Foundation, Quilt of Fidel Castro's Genocide, 1994, both report a Pedro Muiño executed at La Cabaña prison in 1961. Beruvides, 1993, p. 149, also has a Pedro Muiño assassinated in prison in 1966.
