Case description:

Part of a failed expedition that sought to depose Dominican dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo. A group of around 30 men left Puerto Padre, eastern Cuba, on August 10, 1959, commanded by Henry Fuentes, "el argelino" (Colombian) and Rigal Guerrero (Mexican). They were veteran fighters of the Rebel Army and many had fought under Commander Delio Gómez Ochoa, who awaited them in the Dominican Republic, having commanded landings on June 14, 19 and 20 to Constanza, Maimón, and Estero Hondo that were repelled by Dominican forces. The group got lost en route from Cuba and was discovered and persecuted by Haitian authorities, landing in the mountainous area of Cape Haitian, Haiti. After a few weeks, several battles, and many hardships, it was defeated; only five of its members had survived (and were later delivered back to Cuba).  Haiti's dictator, Francois Duvalier, accused Cuba before the OAS of invading Haiti to overthrow his government and Cuba responded by breaking relations with Haiti. To diffuse international pressure, Cuba broke away from the group of 'internationalists' and Fidel Castro called them "adventurers." The list of victims includes (with case no.):

Parte de un grupo de 30 hombres que el 10 de agosto de 1959 salieron del municipio Puerto Padre, en el Oriente de Cuba. Eran combatientes del Ejército Rebelde que en su mayoría habían luchado bajo las órdenes del comandante Delio Gómez Ochoa, que ya se encontraba en Santo Domingo. El objetivo del grupo fue apoyar las expediciones del 14, 19 & 20 de junio a Constanza, Maimón y Estero Hondo, que enfrentaban resistencia de las fuerzas dominicanas. Fracasaron, ya que se perdieron en la ruta Cuba-Santo Domingo y llegaron a las costas haitianas por error. Fueron descubiertos y perseguidos por las autoridades de ese país. Asediados, desembarcaron por la zona de Cabo Haitiano, tomaron un área montañosa por varias semanas. Después de varios combates y mil penurias, sólo sobrevivieron 5, que luego fueron devueltos a Cuba. Duvalier acusó a Cuba ante la OEA de invasión a su territorio para derrocar su gobierno, Cuba reaccionó rompiendo relaciones con Haiti. Para quitarse de encima la presión internacional, Cuba se desligó de los internacionalistas y Fidel Castro los acusó de ser "unos aventureros".
