Case description:

U.S. citizen, former World War II veteran, and former member of the U.S. Navy who had first been stationed at the US Naval Base at Guantanamo and later stayed on as a civilian. He died at a hospital emergency room, where he had gone with high blood pressure after receiving an injection that his daughter believes was intended to kill him. That same day she alleges she was almost killed at a hospital in Havana and the full-term baby she was carrying killed, in what she believes was a planned scheme to prevent her from attending her father's funeral. 
Francis Brown was an African-American who worked as a diver at the U.S. Guantanamo Naval Base when the revolutionary regime came to power in 1959. He had a daughter with a Cuban woman and lived in the city of Guantanamo, outside the base. When the Castro regime took power and became very hostile to the US government, Brown's daughter claims that the Castro brothers ordered him killed, planning to blame the U.S. government to provoke a confrontation. When Brown was alerted by the designated killer, he resigned from his job at the base (to not be used as pawn) and stayed in Cuba to try to get his family out. The Cuban government at first accused him of kidnapping his own daughter, then six, who lived with him and her loving stepmother. He was released two months later when many Guantanamo citizens protested (including strong regime opponents), as they knew the family. But, his daughter was forced to go live with her mother, a Cuban who had not wanted the baby and abused her; she refused permission for her to emigrate (apparently with government pressure). Her father was allowed to visit her only once a month with two Ministry of the Interior guards escorting him.  
With the establishment of closer relations with Cuba during the Carter Administration, as part of a planned trip by Cuban exiles back to the island for the first time, the daughter believes the Castro regime decided it was time to get rid of the American. They had long considered him a public relations' problem. He was threatened by State Security and his blood pressure apparently went up (or he had physical discomforts right afterwards). When he went to the hospital, under watch by State Security officers, he was given an injection that almost immediately caused him to foam a the mouth . He died soon thereafter. He was buried at the Guantanamo cemetery, but when the family went to exhume the body years later, his remains were nowhere to be found.
His daughter endured years of harassments, threats and captivity. She was not allowed to leave Cuba with her own son until 2009 and was only given permission after she threatened to die from a hunger strike. They received political asylum's in the U.S. in late 2009. Their luggage, which contained important documents regarding her and her father's cases, never made it. She reports to have suffered threats, attacks and persecutions from agents orchestrated by Cuba even after her arrival in the U.S.
