Case description:

Executed on the same day as nine fellow members of the resistance on charges of counterrevolution. He was one of the leaders of the August 30, 1962 conspiracy, a planned nationwide uprising coordinated among several resistance groups. It had been infiltrated by the government, massive arrests took place immediately before the plan was to be put in motion. Hundreds of persons were arrested, at least 19 were executed just in September 1962, days after their arrest, and many served long prison sentences.
Alvarez Margolles had actively resisted Batista's coup d'etat in 1952, was a member of the AAA opposition party and leader of the 'puros' anti-Batista conspiracy theory. He had the rank of Colonel in the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.

Ejecutado el mismo día que nueve compañeros de la resistencia acusados de contrarrevolución. Fue uno de los líderes de la conspiración del 30 de agosto de 1962, un levantamiento planificado a nivel nacional coordinado entre varios grupos de resistencia. Había sido infiltrado por el gobierno, se llevaron a cabo arrestos masivos inmediatamente antes de que se pusiera en marcha el plan. Cientos de personas fueron arrestadas, al menos 19 fueron ejecutadas durante septiembre de 1962, días después de su arresto, y muchas cumplieron largas condenas de prisión.
Álvarez Margolles había resistido activamente el golpe de Estado de Batista en 1952, era miembro del partido de oposición AAA y líder de la teoría de la conspiración anti-Batista de los 'puros'. Tenía el grado de Coronel de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Cuba.

Alvarez Margolles killed during the July 26,1953 attack on the Moncada Barracks, Santiago de Cuba.  Clarinada, septiembre 2008, reports the victim as Francisco Álvarez Margolles, an ex-colonel executed by firing squad along with six others in connection with the August 30 uprising, at La Cabaña Fortress prison, Havana, on September 19, 1962.
Beruvides, 1993, pp. 139 and 149; Beruvides, 1995, p. 315; WAQI-Radio Mambí, pp. 19 and 76; Cuban American National Foundation, Quilt of Fidel Castro's Genocide, 1994; and Nuestra Cuba, 1998, pp. 75 and 76 all report a Francisco Morgolles or Francisco Margolle or Francisco Margolla or Francisco Álvarez Margolles, executed at La Cabaña Fortress prison on  September 21, 1962. WAQI-Radio Mambí, p. 19; and Beruvides, 1993, p. 149, have him executed by firing squad in February 1962.  Nuestra Cuba, 1998, p. 16, has him executed by firing squad at San Nicolás de Barí, province of Havana on February 21, 1962.  Circuito Sur, July 2002, p. 51, has him as Francisco Margolle, executed by firing squad at La Cabaña Fortress prison on February 21, 1962.
