Case description:

HIV patient who died in the hospital a few days after being released from prison. (The authorities typically release prisoners expected to die and send them home so they do not die in prison.) Garbey had contracted tuberculosis in prison, he was not told he had hepatitis C or given medical treatment. He had developed a fever on October 4th (2017), was only given medication to lower the fever, and on October 19th was sent home when his condition worsened. When he was taken to a hospital, it was too late to save him.  His family insisted he was innocent of any crimes and had been arrested without any evidence of cause at La Fraternidad park of Havana (a gathering spot for the gay community). He had been kept in a prison (for prisoners with HIV-AIDS at San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque) without trial for a year.
His father, Ramón Garbey, a well-known boxer who had emigrated from Cuba, was denied entry to visit him in his death bed or attend his funeral.

(Las autoridades generalmente liberan a los presos que se espera que mueran y los envían a casa para que no mueran en prisión). Garbey había contraído tuberculosis en prisión, no le dijeron que tenía hepatitis C ni le dieron tratamiento médico. Había tenido fiebre el 4 de octubre (2017), solo le dieron medicamentos para bajar la fiebre y el 19 de octubre fue enviado a casa cuando su condición empeoró. Cuando lo llevaron a un hospital, ya era demasiado tarde para salvarlo. Su familia insistió en que era inocente de cualquier delito y había sido arrestado sin ninguna evidencia de causa en el parque La Fraternidad de La Habana (un lugar de reunión para la comunidad gay). Había estado en una prisión (para presos con VIH-SIDA en San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque) sin juicio durante un año.
A su padre, Ramón Garbey, un conocido boxeador que había emigrado de Cuba, se le negó la entrada para visitarlo en su lecho de muerte o asistir a su funeral.
