Case description:

Engineer and General Manager of Rio Zaza Co. in Havana, a joint venture between the Cuban government and Chilean Max Marambio, former bodyguard of the ousted president Salvador Allende, close associate of Cuban president, Fidel Castro, and high-ranking Cuban Ministry of the Interior official of the Directorate of Special Operations. Baudrand, who had arrived in Havana almost two years earlier, had been subjected to interrogations and was not allowed to leave Cuba as part of a large investigation of alleged corruption in Marambio owned-companies that had begun December 14th 2009, four months earlier. His death occurred days after the Chilean Foreign Ministry expressed to the Cuban government concern about his situation and asked for authorization for him to leave the country. His body was found at home less than 48 hours after his wife had left on a trip to Chile to celebrate the birthday of one of their daughters.  The autopsy performed in Cuba determined that he died as a result of acute respiratory failure, "associated with the presence of drugs in the gastric content of the deceased, combined with a concentration of ethyl alcohol in the blood." The Chilean government asked Cuba for an "exhaustive investigation" into the death in strange circumstances.

Ingeniero y Gerente General de Rio Zaza Co. en La Habana, una empresa conjunta entre el gobierno cubano y el chileno Max Marambio, ex guardaespaldas del presidente Salvador Allende derrocado por una junta militar, estrecho colaborador del dictador cubano, Fidel Castro, y alto funcionario de la Dirección de Operaciones Especiales del Ministerio del Interior cubano. Baudrand, quien había llegado a La Habana casi dos años antes, había sido sometido a interrogatorios y no se le permitió salir de Cuba como parte de una gran investigación de presunta corrupción en empresas propiedad de Marambio que había comenzado el 14 de diciembre de 2009, cuatro meses antes. Su muerte se produjo días después de que la Cancillería de Chile expresó al gobierno cubano la preocupación por su situación y le pidió autorización para salir del país. Su cuerpo fue encontrado en su casa menos de 48 horas después de que su esposa se fuera de viaje a Chile para celebrar el cumpleaños de una de sus hijas. La autopsia realizada en Cuba determinó que falleció como consecuencia de una insuficiencia respiratoria aguda, "asociada a la presencia de drogas en el contenido gástrico del fallecido, combinada con una concentración de alcohol etílico en la sangre". El gobierno chileno solicitó a Cuba una "investigación exhaustiva" sobre la muerte debido a las extrañas circunstancias.
