Case description:

Sosa Fortuny was the political prisoner who has spent more time in Cuban jails, a total of 43 years. He originally left Cuba at age 18 for the United States. In October 1960 he landed on the Island as part of an anti-Castro guerrilla operation. Sosa was captured and spent 18 years in prison' one member of the group was killed in a shootout and 10 were executed, including 3 Americans.  After his release from prison in 1978, he went back to the United States and in 1994, at the age of 52, he returned to Cuba as part of another anti-Castro guerrilla group. He was once again captured and sentenced to 30 years in prison. His health severely deteriorated in prison and in the last years he suffered complications from diabetes and cerebral ischemia. He had been hospitalized in the prison hospital since August 2019 and died around three months later.

Sosa Fortuny fue el preso político que pasó más tiempo en las cárceles cubanas, un total de 43 años. Originalmente salió de Cuba para Estados Unidos a los 18 años. En octubre de 1960 regresó a la isla como parte de una operación guerrillera anticastrista. Un miembro del grupo murió en combate y otros 10 fueron ejecutados, incluidos 3 estadounidenses. Sosa Fortuny fue capturado y pasó 18 años en prisión. Después de salir de prisión en 1978, regresó a los Estados Unidos y en 1994, a la edad de 52 años, regresó a Cuba como parte de otro grupo guerrillero anticastrista. Una vez más fue capturado y sentenciado a 30 años de prisión. Su salud se había deteriorado en los últimos años y desde Agosto había sido trasladado al hospital de la prisión.
