Case description:

Perhaps the most prominent defense attorney in Cuba, he was arrested in 1985 for his legal defense of counter-revolutionaries and dissidents, in a raid of several lawyers and judges accused of corruption. Sentenced in 1983 to a 13 year prison term, he died of a heart attack awaiting to be treated for prostate cancer. Taboada had been a Law School classmate of  Fidel Castro and his ally in student politics at the University of Havana as well as an early member of the 26th of July political movement and a Moncada assailant.

Quizás el abogado defensor más prominente de Cuba, fue arrestado en 1985 por su defensa legal de contrarrevolucionarios y disidentes. Uno de los iniciadores de la lucha de derechos humanos como colaborador del Comité de los Derechos Humanos en Cuba. En 1983 fue arrestado como parte de una operación policial dirigida por el Ministerio del Interior contra jueces y abogados acusados de corrupción y sentenciado a 13 años de prisión. Fue ingresado en la Cárcel de Guanajay y murió de un infarto cardiacos y esperando ser tratado de cáncer en la próstata. 
Taboada había sido compañero de Fidel Castro en la Facultad de Derecho y su aliado en la política estudiantil en la Universidad de La Habana, así como uno de los primeros miembros del movimiento político del 26 de julio y asaltante del Moncada.
