Circuito Sur, July 2002, p. 48; and Beruvides, 1993, p. 188, report him as Pedro León Venegas, alias Pedro Antonio León, a former mayor of Fomento, last living in Fomento, province of Las Villas (now Sancti Spíritus), a prisoner dead of unknown causes at Isla de Pinos prison on March 23, 1973.  Eduardo de Juan, 1997, pp. 183 and 282; Beruvides, 1993, p. 135; WAQI-Radio Mambí, p. 59; Presidio Político Cubano, 1997, p. 158; Cuban American National Foundation, Quilt of Fidel Castro's Genocide, 1994; Pardo Mazorra, 1992, p. 566; and Nuestra Cuba, 1998, p. 18, report him as Pedro León Venegas, last living in the province of La Habana, a former soldier and prisoner at Isla de Pinos prison who became severely ill and was transferred from La Cabaña Fortress prison to Benefica Hospital and received medical care too little and too late to save his life, on July 19, 1978.  Cuban American National Foundation, Quilt of Fidel Castro's Genocide, 1994, reports him assassinated in prison.  Pardo Mazorra, 1992, p. 566, has him dying on March 23, 1978.  Nuestra Cuba, 1998, p. 18, reports him dying in prison in Havana on March 23, 1973.  Instituto de la memoria histórica, www.cubamemorial.net/listado, reports him dead as a result of lack of medical attention at Benefica Hospital on February 23, 1978.
