Case description:

Franco Alfaro was a declared opponent of the Castro regime and was vocal about it. He had been a member of the opposition group Partido 30 de Noviembre Frank País  and later the Movimiento 20 de Mayo (20th of May Human Rights Movement). He had been threatened by the political police with his disappearance if he did not abandon opposition activities. On May 20, 2009 (the anniversary of Cuba´s independence and the namesake for his opposition group) he left his home at 6:30AM to go fishing from the shore at Casa Blanca and told his wife he would be back by noon. He never returned and nothing is known of his whereabouts. He left behind an elderly mother, a wife, and 8 year old son. His wife has requested an investigation and claims the government is responsible.

Franco fue miembro del grupo pacífico de oposición Movimiento 20 de Mayo de Derechos Humanos, que se llamaba así por el aniversario de la independencia de Cuba. La policía política lo había amenazado con desaparecerlo si no abandonaba sus
actividades de oposición. El 20 de mayo de 2009, salió de
su casa muy temprano para ir a pescar desde la costa cercana y le dijo a su esposa que regresaría al mediodía. Nunca regresó y no se sabe nada de su paradero.
