Case description:

Young prisoner who suffered from chronic asthma. 
Eric had been serving his sentence in Camaguey, far from his hometown in Havana, an additional punishment typically imposed by Cuban authorities to keep families from visiting (inter-province transportation is very difficult in Cuba).
For days before his death Eric had been complaining about his asthma and requesting medical attention, but prison authorities, including medical personnel, had ignored his pleas alleging he was faking his condition  to be sent for a "vacation" for healthcare outside the prison. Several days went by with Eric  complaining he could not breath and pleading for medication, without receiving it. 
He was in a coma when a transfer to the hospital was finally ordered. While he lay dying in intensive care, prison authorities delivered to his mother his release from prison (a common tactic the government uses to not have to report prisoner deaths).

Eric había estado cumpliendo su condena en Camagüey, lejos de su ciudad natal en La Habana, un castigo adicional impuesto típicamente por las autoridades cubanas para evitar que las familias los visiten (el transporte inter-provincial es muy difícil en Cuba).
Durante días antes de su muerte, Eric había estado quejándose de su asma y pidiendo atención médica, pero las autoridades de la prisión, incluido el personal médico, habían ignorado sus argumentos alegando que estaba fingiendo su condición para ser enviado a unas "vacaciones" para recibir atención médica fuera de la prisión. Varios días pasaron con Eric quejándose de que no podía respirar y suplicar por la medicación, sin recibirla. Estaba en coma cuando finalmente se ordenó un traslado al hospital. Mientras permanecía moribundo en cuidados intensivos, las autoridades de la prisión entregaron a su madre su liberación de la prisión (una táctica común que el gobierno usa para no tener que reportar muertes de prisioneros).
