Case description:

The prisoner had been afflicted with tuberculosis for at least four months, but was denied medical treatment. The day before his death, he had been taken to the hospital, but denied admission and sent back to the prison. Prison authorities rejected pleas from fellow prisoners in the medical ward for his proper medical care and responded that he did not look so gravely ill. He died at 3AM, officially of respiratory failure. He had lost half his body weight.

Preso que padecía tuberculosis desde hacía al menos cuatro meses, pero se le negó tratamiento médico. El día antes de su muerte, lo llevaron al hospital, pero se le negó la admisión y lo enviaron de regreso a la prisión. Las autoridades penitenciarias rechazaron las súplicas de los compañeros de prisión en la sala médica para que recibiera la debida atención médica y respondieron que no parecía tan gravemente enfermo. Murió a las 3 de la madrugada, oficialmente de insuficiencia respiratoria. Había perdido la mitad de su peso corporal.
