Case description:

Guerrilla rebel leader captured in combat at Pico Tuerto, Las Villas province, and executed by firing squad with four comrades in arms immediately after a summary trial in which capital punishment had prior been established.
Porfirio was a farmer of humble origins who had fought against Batista and had obtained the rank of Captain of the Rebel Army.  He then returned to civil life, enrolled at Universidad de Las Villas and became a well known and popular student leader of national stature. He joined the resistance as the revolution turned Communist. The four were captured after a friend and comrade in the resistance, Felix Hurtado, informed on his whereabouts.

Porfirio era un campesino de orígen humilde que había luchado contra Batista y había obtenido el rango de Capitán del Ejército Rebelde. Luego regresó a la vida civil, se inscribió en la Universidad de Las Villas y se convirtió en un conocido y popular líder estudiantil de talla nacional. Se unió a la resistencia cuando la revolución se volvió comunista
