Case description:

Member of 5-person team captured at Bahía Honda, province of Pinar del Río after a clandestine landing from overseas (having left Key West, Florida) on March 9, 1961. The men belonged to the opposition group MIRR (Movimiento Insurreccional de Recuperacion Revolucionaria) and planned to join the resistance against the Castro government. The judicial sentence (of death by firing squad) states they were bearing arms but had not engaged in any armed actions before their capture. First Lt. Enrique Montes de Oca presided over the revolutionary tribunal that sentenced them to death. Another U.S. citizen, Howard Anderson, and seven Cubans were executed that same day on similar charges. The United States forwarded a stiff protest to the Cuban Government declaring the executions violated "the elementary standards of justice practiced by the civilized nations of the world."

Miembro de un grupo de 5 personas capturado tras un desembarco clandestino procedente del exterior el 9 de marzo de 1961 en Bahía Honda, provincia de Pinar del Río. Todos los hombres pertenecían al grupo de oposición MIRR (Movimiento Insurreccional de Recuperacion Revolucionaria) y planeaban unirse a la guerrilla que luchaba contra el gobierno de Castro. La sentencia judicial (de muerte por pelotón de fusilamiento) establece que portaban armas pero no habían realizado ninguna acción armada antes de ser capturados. El primer teniente Enrique Montes de Oca presidió el tribunal revolucionario que los condenó a muerte. Otro ciudadano estadounidense, Howard Anderson, y siete cubanos fueron ejecutados ese mismo día por cargos similares. Estados Unidos envió una dura protesta al gobierno cubano declarando que las ejecucioness violaban "las normas elementales de justicia practicadas por las naciones civilizadas del mundo".
