Case description:

Member of the Chilean Army driving one of the civilian vehicles part of the caravan of Chilean president/dictator, General Augusto Pinochet, killed by gunshots during an attempt on Pinochet´s life upon his return from his vacation residence outside of Santiago. Five persons died and eleven were injured. Pinochet was traveling in an armored Mercedes Benz with his grandson, both survived with minor wounds.  The attack was perpetrated by underground guerrillas part of the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front trained in Cuba and with meticulous planning and weapons´ support from Cuban intelligence services (as reported by two high ranking Cuban defectors). All the attackers fled to Cuba.

Miembro del Ejército de Chile conducía uno de los vehículos civiles de la caravana del presidente / dictador chileno, General Augusto Pinochet, y murió asesinado a balazos durante un atentado contra la vida de Pinochet a su regreso de su residencia de vacaciones en las afueras de Santiago. Cinco personas murieron y once resultaron heridas. Pinochet viajaba en un Mercedes Benz blindado con su nieto, ambos sobrevivieron con heridas leves. El ataque fue perpetrado por guerrilleros clandestinos del Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez entrenados en Cuba y con una planificación meticulosa y el apoyo de armas de los servicios de inteligencia cubanos (según informaron dos desertores cubanos de alto rango). Todos los atacantes huyeron a Cuba.
