Case description:

Believed to have been forcibly disappeared by Cuban authorities with four others.  On December 24, 2004, the group headed to Guayabal, in the southern coast of Cuba, attempting to flee the country by boat. The day before, the wife of one of the members of the group had reported to Cuban authorities the planned exit attempt seeking to prevent her husband from leaving.  Idania was a dentist and human rights activist with the Cuban Human Rights Foundation in the province of Las Tunas harassed and threatened by the political police, dragged through the streets by authorities for participating in public protests, and the victim of several repudiation rallies for her critical stance on the health situation in Cuba.

Se cree que fue desaparecida por las autoridades cubanas junto a otras cuatro personas. El grupo se dirigió a Guayabal, en la costa sur de Cuba, intentando huir del país en barco. El día anterior, la esposa de uno de los miembros del grupo había informado a las autoridades cubanas del intento de salida planeado para evitar que su esposo se fuera. Idania fue dentista y activista de derechos humanos de la Fundación de Derechos Humanos de Cuba en la provincia de Las Tunas, hostigada y amenazada por la policía política, arrastrada por las calles por las autoridades por participar en protestas públicas y víctima de varios actos de repudio por sus críticas y su posición sobre la situación de salud en Cuba.
