Case description:

Sister-in-law of Raúl Castro and sister of the now deceased Vilma Espín, longtime head of the Cuban Women's Federation. Nilsa had supported the insurgency against Batista and married a member of the Rebel Army. After the revolution came to power, he was sent to work in the agrarian reform at Pinar del Río. Reportedly, Nilsa shot herself in the temple with a forty-five-caliber pistol after finding out that her husband had killed himself (that same day). Allegedly they had a suicide pact, as both had become disillusioned with the revolution. The media, controlled by the government, did not report on the deaths.

Cuñada de Raúl Castro y hermana de la ahora fallecida Vilma Espín, fue durante mucho tiempo la jefa de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas. Nilsa había apoyado la insurgencia contra Batista y se había casado con un miembro del Ejército Rebelde. Después de que la revolución llegó al poder, su esposo fue enviado a trabajar en la reforma agraria en Pinar del Río. Supuestamente,, Nilsa se disparó en la sien con una pistola de caliber 45 después de descubrir que su marido se había suicidado (ese mismo día). Al parecer tenían un pacto suicida, ya que ambos se habían desilusionado con la revolución. Los medios de comunicación, controlados por el gobierno, no informaron sobre las muertes.
