Case description:

Left the south coast of Santiago de Cuba with his brother Rubén on 9/11/1993 and three others, seeking to reach and find refuge in the U.S. naval base in Guantánamo. Their brothers Reynaldo Elias and Elioenay were imprisoned at Boniato prison for attempting to escape Cuba. After serving five years of prison, Elioenay attempted to investigate what had happened to his brothers and was told by people from his town that the other three had survived and escaped Cuba. State Security threatened to imprison him if he continued. The family presumes they were forcibly disappeared (and killed) by authorities.

Salió desde la costa de Santiago de Cuba con su hermano Rubén buscando llegar a la base naval de los EE. UU. en Guantánamo y desaparecieron. La familia presume que fueron asesinados por las autoridades cubanas. Para esa fecha, sus hermanos Reynaldo y Elioenay estaban encarcelados en la prisión de Boniato por tratar de escapar de Cuba. Después de cumplir una condena de cinco años, Elioenay trató de investigar lo que había pasado con sus hermanos y descubrió que tres amigos que se habían ido con ellos sobrevivieron.
