Case description:

She and her mother were walking towards the military barracks in Palma Soriano, Oriente province,  to deliver food when they were caught in a firefight between soldiers and Rebel Army troops that were attacking from a nearby cane field. Both died and were buried the next day, Christmas Eve. Their uncle Eliodoro Montes de Oca, who worked in the office at the barracks, was taken prisoner by the soon victorious Rebel Army and executed at San Juan Hill on 1/13/1959. Her father and a brother were imprisoned, but released after some time when they could not charge them with any crimes. Her father was a veterinarian in private practice who had served the military under several governments by providing care for horses.

Hilda y su madre caminaban hacia el cuartel militar en Palma Soriano, provincia de Oriente, para entregar comida cuando fueron atrapadas en un tiroteo entre soldados y tropas del Ejército Rebelde que estaban atacando desde un campo de caña cercano. Ambas murieron y fueron enterradas al día siguiente, Nochebuena. Su tío Eliodoro Montes de Oca, que trabajaba en la oficina del cuartel, fue hecho prisionero por el victorioso Ejército Rebelde y ejecutado en San Juan Hill el 13 de enero de 1959. Su padre y un hermano fueron encarcelados, pero liberados después de un tiempo porque no pudieron acusarlos de ningún delito. Su padre era un veterinario en la práctica privada que había servido al ejército en varios gobiernos cuidando caballos.
