Case description:

Leader of the July 26 Movement in Santiago de Cuba who was arrested and assassinated by Batista police together with his friend Raúl Pujol. País was hiding in Pujol's house. Their location had been compromised in a telephone call from Vilma Espín (late wife of Raúl Castro) over a line monitored by Batista's police. País was arrested and his search produced a pistol.  The police was under the command of Colonel Salas Cañizares and policeman Israel Arencibia was later (1959) charged for this crime and executed.

Líder del Movimiento 26 de Julio en Santiago de Cuba, detenido y asesinado por la policía de Batista junto a su amigo Raúl Pujol. País se escondía en la casa de Pujol. Su ubicación había sido comprometida en una llamada telefónica de Vilma Espín (difunta esposa de Raúl Castro) a través de una línea controlada por la policía de Batista. País fue arrestado y su búsqueda produjo un tiroteo. La policía estaba bajo el mando del Coronel Salas Cañizares y posteriormente, en 1959, el policía Israel Arencibia fue acusado de este delito y ejecutado.
