Case description:

Student leader who survived the attack on the presidential palace and was in hiding with four fellow revolutionaries at a Havana apartment located at 7 Humboldt Street. He had been designated president of the Directorio Revolucionario, the group that staged the attack on the palace around a month earlier (on March 13th) after their leader José Antonio Echevarría had been killed. The police, with feared Colonel Esteban Ventura at the helm, barged into the apartment after receiving a tip, allegedly from fellow student Marcos (Marquitos) Rodríguez, who was a member of the Cuban Communist Party. Fructuoso attempted to flee and jumped from a second floor but was shot and killed as he lay unconscious on the floor. The other three were also assassinated.

Líder estudiantil recien nombrado jefe del grupo opositor Directorio Revolucionario tras la muerte del líder José Antonio Echevarría. Era buscado por participar en el ataque al Palacio Presidencial hacía poco mas de un mes (13 de marzo) y se había escondido con tres compañeros en un apartamento de la Habana (en Humboldt #7). Un equipo de la policía bajo el mando del temido Coronel Esteban Ventura irrumpió en el lugar, supuestamente alertado por el estudiante Marcos (Marquitos) Rodríguez, miembro del Partido Comunista de Cuba. Fructuoso intentó huir, saltó de un segundo piso, y fue asesinado a tiros mientras yacía inconsciente en el suelo.
