Case description:

Murdered by Colombian coyotes with a fellow traveler at the Colombian jungle near the border with Panama while traveling towards the U.S. by land. They had charged the group of three Cubans US$1,500 to guide them to the Panamanian border, but upon reaching a swamp, demanded more money, which the group didn´t have. They then stabbed Edelvis and sliced her neck (initial reports also stated she had been raped). They also stabbed the men, one died, but her boyfriend, Liover Santos Corría, survived the attack injured and provided testimony that led to the arrest of the perpetrators. The two victims' bodies were recovered by authorities in the jungle. Edelvis had worked in accounting for a family restaurant ("paladar") in Cuba. She left Cuba with her boyfriend for Guyana, crossed into Venezuela and then Colombia, where they met with the rest of the group to continue the journey towards the U.S. Johan Estiven Carreazo Asprilla, alias "Playboy", age 20, and Carlos Emilio Ibargüen Palacio, alias "Carlos", age 26, and Fredis Valencia Palacios were arrested by Colombian authorities for the crime.  All three were extradited to the U.S. to face charges of trafficking in persons. In December 2018, Fredis Valencia Palacios was sentenced to 15 years of prison on Florida for trafficking in persons.

Asesinada por coyotes colombianos junto a un compañero de viaje en la selva colombiana cerca de la frontera con Panamá mientras viajaba hacia Estados Unidos por tierra. Le habían cobrado al grupo de tres cubanos US $ 1.500 por guiarlos hasta la frontera panameña, pero al llegar a un pantano exigieron más dinero, que el grupo no tenía. Luego apuñalaron a Edelvis y le cortaron el cuello (los informes iniciales también indicaron que había sido violada). También apuñalaron a los hombres, uno murió, pero su novio, Liover Santos Corría, sobrevivió herido al ataque y brindó testimonio que condujo a la detención de los perpetradores.
