Case description:

Executed after a sham trial, accused of intelligence activities associated with the Bay of Pigs invasion and of making contacts with the resistance movement. Swiss diplomats attended the trial.  Before his execution, witnesses reported that he had been savagely tortured and most of his blood had been extracted (the Cuban government alleged it was to treat revolutionaries wounded in the Bay of Pigs invasion, but was reportedly selling blood to other countries). He was buried in a ditch/mass grave. He left a wife, Dorothy, and four children, Gary, 15, Marc, 11, Lee, 8, and Bonnie, 5.  Anderson was executed the same day as another U.S. citizen, Angus McNair, and several other Cubans. The United States forwarded a stiff protest to the Cuban Government declaring the executions violated "the elementary standards of justice practiced by the civilized nations of the world." Anderson's wife, Dorothy, was born in Cuba of American parents. He met her while serving there as a chief petty officer in the United States Navy. They were married in 1944 and returned to Havana in 1947 when he finished his naval service and went into partnership with his father-in-law, Alexander H. Stauber. Anderson owned a string of service stations. His widow and children sued the Cuban government for damages in U.S federal court and in 2003 obtained an award of $67 million.

Diplomáticos suizos asistieron al juicio.
